Greeting film aficionados, Join us for our September political film club conversation. Let’s talk on zoom about Civil War, streaming on HBO Max and for rental on Amazon, on Friday, September 27 at 5:00.
Civil War, a dystopian thriller film set in the near present, focuses on a group of journalists traveling the US to report on the country’s civil war. As NY Times Manohla Dargis writes, British director Alex Garland has created a “movie that’s been workshopped in American political discourse and in mass culture, and which entered wider circulation on January 6.” Warning against extreme partisanship, Garland gives us “a thought experiment about journalist ethics” and a free independent press. Many of us have been looking forward to talking about this one. As we move towards November elections, Civil War will give us much to discuss.
Watch the film, grab something to eat and drink, and join us to for a timely discussion on politics, extreme partisanship, and speculative fiction.
DORR’s political film club is hosted by DORR member Mik Jordahl (Attorney) and Board member Frankie Riemer (Professor).
